A good crowd of over 24,000 watched as Leeds thrashed Southend 4-1 in their first home game with three goals coming late on. Alan Thompson shot United ahead after only three minutes but had to wait until the last five minutes before Tore Andre Flo scored the second and Rui Marques and Jermaine Beckford sealed the match.
